Historic barn restoration sets the
stage for Olthof's latest signature resort-style
community
There never was a doubt that the historic
barn, which was erected in 1938, would be
an integral part of Olthof Homes' newest
community.
With original photos and telltale vignettes
provided by Crown Point community icon Harold
Wheeler, the barn and its rich past have
provided a springboard for plans that include
single-family homes, maintenance-free villas,
a luxury clubhouse, heated outdoor swimming
pool with sundeck, natural community park
setting with a gazebo, generous playground
space well equipped for family enjoyment,
winding walking trails and calming bodies
of water accented with dramatic fountains.
"In planning the Pentwater community,
we chose a combination of amenities from
other Olthof developments to offer the best
of all possible worlds in this beautiful
historic setting,'' said Carmen Ware, sales
manager for Olthof Homes. "We are so
pleased to have received a number of beautiful
historical photographs from Harold that
will be on display in the clubhouse and
barn.''
Harold Wheeler, who died recently at age
79, was the great-great-great grandson of
Crown Point founder Solon Robinson, great-great
grandson of Col. John Wheeler, who was killed
at Gettysburg, great-grandson of John J.
Wheeler, who was a civil war veteran and
the founder, editor and publisher of The
Lake County Star, grandson of Crown Point's
first mayor, Harold H. Wheeler, and the
son of Col. John W. Wheeler who was a citizen,
soldier and builder of the Alaskan Canadian
Highway. He followed in the footsteps of
his forefathers as a great community leader
and historian. His contributions to the
community will be recognized by Olthof when
the restored barn is dedicated in his honor.
Destined to become a landmark community
with historical significance, Pentwater
is conveniently located just one minute
from Interstate 65 for commuters and less
than five minutes from Crown Point's one-of-a-kind
hometown square. The community's award-winning
schools are nearby as well.
"Pentwater is an incredibly convenient
location. From Pentwater you can get to
Chicago or Indianapolis with equal ease,''
Ware said. "But when you want to relax
in a vacation-style atmosphere, you don't
have to leave the neighborhood to take advantage
of the exclusive community amenities including
exercise facilities, clubhouse, picnics
in the barn, stroll in the park or a refreshing
dip in the swimming pool, etc.''
Designed to be a community for active lifestyles,
Pentwater residents will enjoy access to
a full clubhouse with social rooms, a kitchen,
fitness center and outdoor pool. Use of
the resident-only fitness center and pool
is included with each homeowner's annual
association dues and the social rooms and
kitchen can be reserved for special occasions
or group meetings for a nominal cleaning
fee.
With plans for 151 single-family homes and
109 maintenance-free villas at Pentwater,
Olthof is scheduled to have several single-family
express homes available for occupancy next
March, with Villas following as soon as
May.
"During this early phase of development,
we are offering preconstruction pricing,
which includes home sites and ranges from
the $250s to $350s for single-family homes,
depending on how you personalize and from
the $190s to the $250s for the maintenance-free
villas,'' Ware said. "In order to provide
the widest variety of homes, we're offering
more than a dozen different architectural
styles on our exteriors.''
The single-family homes at Pentwater include
5 diverse floor plans with options for 23
different exterior looks. They include the
Hamlin, a 2,100-square-foot ranch with 3
to 4 bedrooms and available 3-car garage,
extended garage and sunroom; the Concord,
a 2,250-square-foot, 1.5 story with 4 bedrooms
and available 3-car garage and sunroom;

garage and sunroom; the Madison, a 2,400-square-foot

3-car garage, extended garage and sunroom;
and the Garrison, a 3,000-square-foot 2-story

extended garage and sunroom.
Also single-family, the maintenance-free

2 to 3 bedrooms; the Birchwood, with 1,455
square feet of living space and 2 bedrooms;
the Fernwood, with 1,520 square feet of
living space and 2 bedrooms and an optional
hobby/storage room; and the Meadow View,

floor plans include optional sunrooms and
optional side-loaded garages, which add
to the 20 already available exterior looks,
plus landscape packages with maintenance
and snow removal included in the annual
association dues.
"Pentwater has the best of both worlds
with its single-family homes and maintenance-free
villas,'' Ware said. "We're looking
forward to the upcoming barn dedication
and grand opening celebration some time
next summer.''
